I am an English Teddy Bear Artist from the UK and have been selling my Cupboard Bears all over the world since 1994.

The bears and their friends have found homes in most continents all over the world, during that time I have made many wonderful friends.

For as long as I can remember I have been sewing. My first stitches were for clothes for my dolls. I remember sewing a pink dress of wool crepe for my doll before I started school so I was younger than five when the stitching bug hit, my Great Granny was a seamstress, my Nanny was a seamstress so it seems to be in my blood to stitch.

As a child I would hunt for fabrics from all kind of places, thrift sales were a great place for dress fabrics for my doll's clothes, blackout curtains and blankets were great for other characters.

At an early age, I took requests from my fellow students at infant school for soft toys. Before the age of twelve, I created soft toys which I would sell and then donate my earnings to charity. I just loved to stitch and to create something that other people would enjoy.

My mind is always whizzing with the next creation. An idea for a bear or character can come from a piece of fabric or trim, even a button can start my mind creating a new character. I stitch and design all the creations and outfits with top quality fabrics. I like to spend time adding detail to my bears and their friends so that they have that 'something special' about them.

All my Cupboard Bears are hand-sewn and filled with glass beads; sometimes steel to make them nice and weighty, along with top quality fillings and hugs.

The bears are five-way jointed with nuts and bolts. The fabrics I use are mainly German Mohair, sometimes I use English Tweed or German viscose for the bear's fur. The bears have ultra suede or wool paw pads, glass eyes and hand-stitched Perle cotton claws & noses.

I also knit the little cardigans and sweaters with 2ply wool, it helps keep the bears extra snug.

I really enjoy using old lace and vintage trims for my bears, I like that well-loved faded look that old fabrics have. When I use vintage lace, it isn't always perfect, this I will state when I offer a bear for sale.

The Bears and their friends will arrive complete with a swing tag around their neck, my signature and the bear's name will be on the swing tag, they will also have a tag sewn into their back.

I'm so lucky to have the Cupboard Bears to create, it fulfills my creative side; without stitching I'm lost so thank you to you all for adopting my Cupboard Bears and for supporting me over the years. You've given me the best occupation. I'm so very grateful - Thank you!

Elizabeth.
